iLAND Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Art, Nature and Dance investigates the power of dance, in collaboration with other fields, to illuminate our kinetic understanding of the world. iLAND is a dance research organization with a fundamental commitment to environmental sustainability as it relates to art and the urban context. iLAND seeks to foster, through dance and art, the growth of informed and aware citizens who become actively engaged in building stronger, more vital communities that reflect a global consciousness of the earth's interconnectedness through ecosystems and creative thought. The company has conducted a variety of initiatives meant to educate diverse communities about ways to create sustainable environments in the arts and in urban landscapes. The organization also runs iLAB, a collaborative residency program that cultivates cross-disciplinary efforts among movement-based artists, scientists, environmentalists, urban designers, architects, and others, integrating creative practice in their engagement with the ecology of New York City. ILAB seeks to invigorate and re-imagine relationships between the public and the urban environment through kinetic experience.
